DIY Glitter Heel Boots

I was so pleased with my Oasis 'Fran' ankle boots until...

The stooooooopid fake stacked heel started to wear off!!  

(They also used to have that nubuk leather look, but due to a slight mishap with some weather-protector, they now look like normal polished leather.  Oh well, at least they'll be ready for the China snow.)

So this got me thinking - how do I make the heels look good again?  You can see in the picture of the heels above that I already tried colouring the white bits in with a sharpie, but to no avail.

It was time to whip out the glitter and get my DIY-magic on (again).

I googled around a bit for some inspiration, which led me to some glitter heel boots from New Look (£34) and also from Maje (pictured below.  A not-so-cool £305...)

Exams finished on Thursday, and I swear I went a little manic due to my sleep deprivation (2hrs sleep the night before thanks to major exam-cram-time...  If you follow us on twitter you'd know about this haha).  So... I decided it would be a good idea to try to crank out this DIY at 1am.

Of course I still had some sense left, and abandoned it halfway through to be finished in the morning.  (7am to be exact...)  Seriously there is something wrong with me now.  But at least I can still entertain you with a new DIY tutorial!

DIY GLITTER-HEEL BOOTS


Things to assemble:
Glue, glitter, some sort of abrasive material, masking tape, and a pair of boots to maul.

Step 1:
Tape around the heel of the boot, so that you can get it clean and glitter it without ruining the leather.

Step 2 (the fun bit): 
Make the surface of the heel rough so the glue sticks (basic science, my dear readers!).
I used a steak-knife.  Like a maniac.  At 1am in the kitchen by myself.

Step 3:
 Mix your glitter into the glue.
I used very fine glitter for this project (compared to the larger glitter I used  for the other boots here), since I wanted a more subtle effect.  My original plan was to have black glitter, but I didn't have enough...  So they became silver instead!

Make sure you save some glitter to sprinkle over the heel later!

Step 4:
 Apply a coat of glitter-glue.
Dry, then repeat with another layer and sprinkle some loose glitter over to finish!

Step 5:
Remove the tape and do spot touch-ups where required.
This part is the kicker if you want a really polished, non-I-made-this-myself look.
Then spray over the heel with spray-adhesive (or some good old hair-spray).

Et voila!  
You've got yourself a re-vamped pair of kicks.
