The Graduate

Simon had his graduation ceremony last night - I'm so proud of him!!

group-5

Just quietly, UWA graduation ceremonies with all their grandness and regalia look so impressive.  Can't wait for mine in a couple of years!  Might have to do a masters or a PhD just to get to wear the hat though...

Stand & Deliver

Sass & Bide released the look-book for their new collection "Stand & Deliver".  I've got to say, my admiration of S&B apparel has grown in the past year, and this new collection is just fueling it along.

Lots of metallics?  Don't mind if I do.

DIY Stone Pendant

I spontaneously picked up this stone at Hobart airport without any plans for its future, so this afternoon (after many laps of the kitchen, cups of tea, trips to the fridge & activity suggestions from mother) I sat down with it and a piece of wire and made this...

IMG_2214

How to:
(This is super duper easy.  About 1000 times easier than this.  Nearly as easy as this.)

You need some beading wire, any sized stone & a long chain.
Estimate how much wire you'll need (cut it longer if in doubt).  Thread it through a middle loop of the chain.
Next, wrap the wire around the bead as tight as possible in every direction until it looks how you want it.
Try to tuck in the ends & cut the wire in an inconspicuous spot (i.e. not in the middle-front of the bead).
Done! Easy as pie!

The beauty of this DIY necklace is that none of it is stuck together.  One day if when I think of a far better use for the stone, I can easily take it all apart.

IMG_2215IMG_2217

The trouble with me & crafty projects is that I get so hell-bent on doing the project RIGHT! NOW! & photos generally are snapped haphazardly throughout.  Hence all the blurr-tastic photos.

PS: Fancy that! The stone happens to be our COTM... cah-raaaazehhh.

Delicate Lace

As part of my obsession-with-textures complex, I have grown a penchant for lace.  Make that lace black in particular  This Vogue 2010 editorial, with two ethereal Australian models, is simply divine & I wouldn't mind lazing about in outfits like these!

There are actually a couple of black lace pieces hiding in my wardrobe that will have to make it on here one day!  Wouldn't mind adding some of these either...

Perth Fashion Blogger Breakfast

This morning was our much-awaited Blogger Breakfast at Milk & Honey with some of the lovely blogging girls in Perth.  It was so much fun getting to know these lasses & chatting about blog crushes / getting asked who we were by strangers (umm movie stars, duh!) / eating & drinking a-plenty!

T took heaps of photos, but here are just a few.  Click through to see more!

Garland

Jen & Phoebe had their joint 21st last night - it was such a nice party!  The theme was "Enchanted Forrest" which meant a good portion of party-goers (myself included) hit up Spotlight and drained them of their flower and ivy supplies.  The rose garland was so easy to make!

I didn't bring my camera along, but I took some polaroids of my outfit.  Consider polaroids a regular feature from now on, whenever I decide I can't be stuffed shooting with the big camera.

LMFF: Megan Park

S & I didn't follow the LMFF program nearly as much as we did for NYFW, LFW and PFW, but when we did feel so inclined, Westfield's Shop The Runway program was definitely the go-to.

Here's the Megan Park show featuring her AW11/12 pieces:

I can't say I've seen her work before, but from the runway and her look book (some pics below), it's got me wanting the winter weather to descend upon us soon.  I have a sneaking suspicion that black with lots of embellishment will be my go-to ensemble this year.  A little turquoise won't go astray either!

Guess what?  The best part is that you can get most of the pieces online here!

A Casual Silhouette

DSC_0082

Yep, we love our blue here at Le Fanciulle.  I also like mixing up our more formal-wear with casual things because frankly, most of my wardrobe is now stuff I wear to the hospital... so naturally it has become my casual wear.  This pencil skirt was another one of my China-Zara-shopping acquisitions, and due to its simple cut, it can be dressed down with a casual tee for some weekend glamour (when the miniskirt ain't cuttin' it).

Weekend Bites

The weekend just gone was very fun-ful and very study-less (Papa T celebrated a big birthday & I just... had too much fun). Here are a few (potato) bites of what went on. Pardon the appalling joke, I'm saving the good ones for a rainy day ;)

Musings on the Back View

This may be an 11/10 on the random scale, but I sometimes think that the important of the "back view" is underrated.

Surely as many (if not more) people give your outfit the once over from behind than from the front, no?
Probably because they won't get caught, they can stare all they like & of course, girls have pretty cute behinds.

DIY Leather Pyramid Bag

Can you believe it?  Another week has zipped past (again) and it's Friday!  Which means it's another round of DIY Friday to ease you into the weekend.

Here's my latest offering - inspired by Sass & Bide's awesome bags (which by the way have sold out in their online store already).
LB_ssb_ss12_004_copyLB_ssb_ss12_002_copy

I won't lie - this was a pretty time-intensive DIY and if you don't have a half-decent sewing machine, you might as well kiss this goodbye and save yourself the heartache.  Let's just say it wasn't an easy task with my mum's el-crappo machine.

DIY LEATHER PYRAMID BAG

You'll need some leather (softer is easier to sew with a standard sewing machine, but too soft and the structure won't hold by itself), a sewing machine and some leather needles (they have a cutting triangular tip), some chain for a handle and a zip.

Make yourself a plan - don't follow mine exactly because I changed the dimensions later to make it work better, but you get the idea.  If you want, make a prototype out of paper and glue just to see if your pattern works.

DSC_0227DSC_0229
DSC_0239
DSC_0230DSC_0231

Trace out your pattern and chop up that leather.
DSC_0234
DSC_0236DSC_0237

Start up that sewing machine, and firstly sew up the triangular pieces so you have a pyramid without a base.  Try and keep it neat or you might run into trouble later (case in point: 4th photo below shows the points not matching up!!).
Try not to hit struggle-town as you sew on your zipper to the bottom of the pyramid first, then the base square.  Reinforce the edges once you're done so that you don't get any raw bits poking out when you turn it inside-out.

DSC_0243
DSC_0246DSC_0255DSC_0245

Turn the tip of the pyramid inside out and get yourself your length of chain.  Make the chain into a loop and using some thick thread, sew it into the apex of the pyramid, hiding the stitch.
DSC_0256DSC_0259

Et voila!
DSC_0261

I might track down a piece of plastic or card that will fit into the base so that it doesn't deform every time I put something into it.  Other than that, I can't wait to debut it somewhere!  Even my dad was surprised with this project :)

Feeling up to the challenge?  Give us a holler if you make your own pyramid bag!
