DIY: Phillip Lim Lips Jumper

Statement jumpers (eg Kenzo & Marcus Lupfer) are huge huge HUGE right now & whilst it would be fun to splurge on every single new season trend, we think it's even more fun to DIY them.

This 3.1 Philip Lim jumper has been on my crafty brain for a while and the rate limiting step for the jumper-making-cascade had become finding a suitable jumper!  Can you believe?  As soon as I started looking for a plain grey cotton jumper, they were all in hibernation.  #storyofmylife (#ihatepeoplewhohashtagoutofcontext)

Anyway, a jumper was found & the story goes on.

Materials
1 Grey jumper (mine is a cheapie from Factorie)
Beading thread
16 white stitch-on beads for the "teeth"
Large stitch-on red & pink beads
Small red & pink beads
^Amount of beads depends on how 'filled in' you want the lips to look & how rich you feel. Them beads ain't cheap.

Beads from The Bead Co

Lay out the beads, beginning with the teeth, ensuring they are symmetrical.  Draw a straight line in lead pencil where the teeth will go.
Stitch on the "teeth" in a straight line.

Once the teeth are secured, layout the largest red beads & plan where they'll go.

I referred to the picture of the original A LOT whilst choosing the bead placement.  The last thing I wanted was to unpick and resew them all, because hand sewing beads is a slooow process.

After sewing all the large ones on, I basically filled in the remaining space with the other colours and sizes.  There was no method in the madness, just madness itself.

Once that was all done, I popped it on the next day & wore it to the Times Square Claremont morning tea.  If there's one place to wear outlandish clothing, then blogging events have to be it.

And no, the morning tea was not in a rainforest.  These photos were taken at home afterwards ;)

Hope you like the jumper!  Remember T's old 3.1 Phillip Lim DIY from over a year ago?  Take a trip down memory lane.
