MANY 6160 Part Two: Meet Your Makers

lefanciulle (1 of 34).jpg

Alright so I've updated my parking permit, cleaned out two fish tanks, eaten chocolate fondue for one, and endured three gruelling hours of Transformers shame, so now I am ready to quit procrastinating and bring you the second instalment of my MANY 6160 tour from last weekend.  I promise this sequel, unlike said travesty that was Michael Bay's bumbling piece of CGI brain-death, will be a bit more amusing & have you pining for next weekend so you can explore MANY!

Prepareth to meet the makers, after the jump.

The Chill

Untitled

This photo is deceiving.  The leaves look like Autumn and the shoes look like warmth, but don't let this fool you.  Perth is abso-bloomin-lutely freezing at the moment.  Of course, it doesn't help that most Perth residents don't own a coat to speak of & spend the whole year saying "oh perth doesn't ever get cold" so we refrain from investing in anything even mildly cold-weather-worthy.

Yesterday, in a fit of freezing panic, I gave my bank account a little shock by investing (yes, Dad, I am using that word correctly... I'm investing in my own warmth) in a few Winter basics.  I'll still be wearing these ballet flats a little longer though because the boot crisis continues...

Maybe I should just bite the brogue bullet?

MANY 6160 Part One: Shop It!

lefanciulle (1 of 27).jpg
lefanciulle (2 of 27).jpg

As you know, “Do-It-Yourself” has been our tune for the past few years on this blog, and thanks to mavens such as Claire Mueller (ex-Harbour Master) as well as social media movements like #KnowYourFactories, we’ve become much more wary about the origins of our wares.  The simple act of making something from scratch not only satisfies the artistic urges, but also makes you appreciate the time & effort poured in to the process of creating – something we all overlook time and time again thanks to mass-production and fast fashion influences.

On Saturday, I was honoured to meet a bunch of creatives harbouring their love for making things – all housed (conveniently too, might I add) in MANY 6160.  Occupying the old Myer building in Fremantle, MANY 6160 was a concept launched by Nick & the Spacemarket gang in 2011.  Although originally intended for a more modest beginning in Wesley Quarter, the offer of inhabiting the 20 000-square-metre ex-department store was too good to pass up!

Just imagine all. That. Space.  Then imagine some more.

MANY 6160 aims to provide a designer-curated shopping experience that fills the gap in Fremantle's higher end (no more hours poking around the Markets for low-yield - yay!).  For the designers and retailers behind the menagerie of fashion, homewares & art on display, they get to work in a collaborative retail space & provide/receive mentorship from their neighbours.  As a testing ground for businesses trying out the market, you'll find stuff in the MANY 6160 complex that you won't find anywhere else, so trip down to King's Square to peruse the goods.

Today's post features just a few of the current retailers on the ground floor - lots of photos after the jump plus a bit of my fashion blogger outfit envy (Chloe Susanna boots, why do you plague me so?).

clicky clicky on that cross! -->

Many Monday

Too many photos and things to write about regarding my Saturday escapades to MANY 6160 - so here, have some champagne breakfast first then pop in tomorrow for part one of my extensive rundown of Fremantle's cool new collaborative retail space.

So ahh, I might start a series called #merightnow, because that is totally what this post is again.  This photo is so cute.  I love how she looks like she was caught completely unawares mid-sip & has an expression on her face that is startlingly familiar.

Evenings lately have been full of tea, knitting, board games and other lazy things like pinning by the fire.  This is the winter life!! What are your favourite cold weather activities?

New week, new phone case.

Feeling rather pumped about debuting this phone cover tomorrow.  Miss kate spade was hard to replace, but it eventually happened.  This weekend's hot pink nails were quite complimentary (matching phone case to nails is possibly the most ridiculous thing I've done in a while) but the polish is sadly being removed at 6am tomorrow for serious nail-polish-less times at work.

Phone cases here.

But what I really want is one of Kerrie Hess' prints.

#merightnow

This layout is legitimately #merightnow or should I say, #ootd.  Whatever hashtag of the day (#hotd?) you choose.

In light of ye olde thing called work as well as the other thing called bloomin cold Winter, there has been a significant lack of outfit posts on the blog lately.  You know what though, it doesn't phase me much.  Some of my most-read blogs are just full of random stuff & I seem to love them anyway, so hooray if le fanch changes. Next thing you know we'll be a gardening blog.  Haha! Or not.  Or yes?

I bought these Nobody cropped jeans last week and now I'm not sure what I used to wear.  Let's just say, BIG fan.  They were full price so it was a painful purchase for stingy me, but no regrets.

Sadly the shoes are Valentino-inspired rather than the real thang.  Better stop buying denim and work on that Valentino-shoe-fund to increase the honesty of my collage.

Bring back the denim jacket!

Denim jackets remind me of the nineties, which was a great time.  Segue into how good Kimbra's new song is - hear it here (and watch the epilepsy-inducing video clip)

If you're hesitating about taking the plunge into boyfriend-jean territory, now is a good time if you're in Perth thanks to the poor excuse for Winter which is currently upon us.  The hole-ier the better in my opinion!

What better way to traipse around the city with ease than with a backpack?

I guess since I've been sitting on my bum at home for the last day, I should get back on to the blogging horse and post up these street style pics I took a month ago!  Oops.  Oh well, there's a few more to trickle out this week so stay tuned.

On the topic of ponies, I've also been preoccupied during said previous month setting up an aquarium for seahorses.  Too many hobbies and not enough spare time to do them all!

Going Brogue

Brogues

A little inspiration for S, who was having a shoe-shopping dilemma this afternoon.

Why brogues are a good idea:
1. less of a chance of wet toes if you substitute ballet flats for them in Winter
2. closed-in toes = suitable for clinical wear

Those spotty Gorman ones better be in stock tomorrow when I celebrate my last day of term!

New Finds: Trini-G

It has been a mighty while since I discovered a new blog and loved it enough to trawl through all the archives.  On Monday, a public holiday here in Perth, I purged my wardrobe (for the 10th time this year! I'm going so well) & then revised my wardrobe goals with the help of Trini-G.  It won't take a genius to realise that the aim is quality classics, so here's to a fast-fashun-less future!
