TPFF: Future Runway - Eco Design

lefanciulle (20 of 74).jpg

Oh hey!  A billion photos later and multiple naps on the couch, and I present to you the LAST FUTURE RUNWAY POST.  It's eco-design, and I'm quite sure my green footprint this week has been anything but eco-friendly.  However, thank goodness there's a bunch of mindful upcoming designers to pick up the slack.

Last photo-essay for the student runway after the jump.

TPFF: Future Runway - Costume Design

lefanciulle (2 of 46).jpg

Argh, it's almost a week since I took these and it's taken me forever to edit them and get them up!  Apologies to the students and anyone who is hanging out for a bit more T-shoots-from-the-sidelines-action.  I'll go right ahead and make a mental note to move seats if a fuzzy-haired lady ever sits in front of me again.  It's all fun and games until a little bit of fuzz works its way into almost EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOUR PHOTOS!  I can only do so much.
Anyway, thank goodness the entries in this category held up on their own against the curly photo-bombing hair-mass.  Click through to the rest of the post to check out arguably the coolest part of the show.

Travel: In Flight Style

Untitled
pic

There's today, then tomorrow, and then BLAST!  I'm off to New Zealand for two weeks.  Apart from a significant amount of fretting about the fact that I haven't started packing (this is coming from a pack-a-whole-week-before person) I am uber excited to spend two weeks solid relaxing and adventuring with PX.

Taking notes from Blair Eadie, queen of preppy-chic, I plan to attempt in flight comfort whilst maintaining my decency in terms of style.  No need for track pants.  Actually, scrap that, I have some Kate Sylvester soft merino pants waiting to be debuted!
Designer track pants all the way.

Any NZ tips are most welcome!  We are flying to Christchurch & driving slowly down to Queenstown via all natures wonders.

TPFF: Future Runway - RTW Women's

lefanciulle (1 of 39).jpg

Another thing about the student runway?  Their ready-to-wear looks are their individual ideas, not driven by the current trends or by revenue.  Take this short sample of looks, versus my NYFW trend posts - a chronic regurgitation on the same theme!  Well done guys on providing us with so much varied visual interest.

Jump time!

TPFF: Future Runway - RTW Men's

lefanciulle (28 of 28).jpg

Just putting it out there, I know next to nothing about menswear apart from the fact that one brand is Ermenegildo Zegna (and that's only because any Asian worth their weight in LV should know this crucial player in brand-whoring).  But that's not to say I can't enjoy it & marvel at the effort the students put in to send the following ten very intriguing looks down the runway.

Thank you Adelle for taking this snap!

Here is a short break before I continue the student runway barrage of posts/photos.  I wore this to take some streetstyle snaps & check out the Hello Parry show last Saturday.  All I can say is jeans were a bad idea on a 30 degree day, even if they possess more holes than your school tights.  Good thing I decided to debut this Seed Heritage top which was breezy for my belly.

Plenty more street style & runway posts to come, but I've got a 7:30 ward round to haul-ass to so check back in this afternoon!

TPFF: Future Runway - Hi Vis Fashion

lefanciulle (16 of 18).jpg

There is no secret that the student runway is one of my favourite events every year - mainly because of the crazy designs that invariably ensue.  Queen Amidala whaaaa?  (Stay tuned for the giant ?orchid in a few posts time).  Speaking of kooky designs, this year the opening category was the most random in a while, with 10 students showcasing what they could do with a bunch of hi-vis fluoro vests donated by Telstra.

Apparently you can make a lot.

And just to do a total backflip on S's last post and load up this one with a billion runway photos,  click on to see more after the jump!

XOXO

I would have posted up more photos today but I had the ultimate nap this afternoon (four hours, no less!).  So now it is time for bulk editing!  First off the bat is one of my favourite photos from the last week, taken after the Hello Parry show (runway photos here).  I love our community of bloggers because when we get together, there's plenty of old and new company to enjoy!

Stay tuned for bulk posts tonight as I chug out the goods.

TPFF: WA Designer Installation

You know what is funny?  I truly enjoy going to runway shows, and I also quite enjoy runway recaps on certain sites, but I hate hate hate blog posts full of mundane runway shots.  Perhaps no one else feels this way, which wouldn't bother me one bit.  It's just that, well, the enjoyment that comes out of reading a blog is the personal nature of the posts; be that the photography style, the choice of photos posted (which might be the author's favourite), or the commentary that follows.  A quirky commentary (a la L Medine) saves a post from being a style.com regurgitation.

With the above in mind, how am I going to tell you about Sunday night's #TPFF WA Designer Collections show without being a giant hypocrite who doesn't like their own post?
Well, I present you three photos only, covered in kindergarten scrawl.  With commentary, even.  Aren't you lucky.

1
Emily Muco's designs embody fun.  F-U-N.  The prints are always so quirky and one can't help but smile when her items flit down the runway.  This bird print (they're birds right?) would be a choice outfit on a hot summers day.

2
Bhalo (means "good" in Bengali) reminds me of Gorman in some ways.  Their garments are ethically made from natural fibres and their stock is mainly easy breezy sun dresses, loose shorts & full skirts, all in happy colours, of course.  This denim shift dress is a different take on the denim dresses that are filling le shoppes at the moment.

3
Katherine Dunmill, known for her handmade leather accessories, sent some killer clothes down the runway, including this ladylike shirt that would look fabuloso with a loose white tshirt tucked in and some Summer wedges.  Perhaps add a floral crown.  So Spring, so chic.

TPFF: Hello Parry

EDIT10

Ahhh online shopping - you're only ever just one click away from looking trendy without the hassle of ever getting out of your pyjamas.  That's a perk for me.  One major enabler of this behaviour is Perth's own Sandy Lai, the maven behind local online retailer Hello Parry.  Stocking designer and street wear-inspired items, you can channel your inner model-off-duty without blowing a gaping hole in your wallet - too good!

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival teamed up with HP (Hello Parry, not Harry Potter) to show off a bevy of key looks for Spring & Summer.  My favourite looks included the coatigan (cardi + coat) and the pyjama-esque two pieces.  The best thing?  You can nab them all online now.

LFW Spring Trending: Flat Sandals

LFW flat shoes

Images from Style.com, Collage by T

Velcro jandals, neutral slides or the clumpy flat-form for the vertically challenged.  This season expect to see sandals galore - not only were they prevalent on the runway at NYFW but also at London Fashion Week just gone by.  My favourites were the See by Chloe gold lace-up flatforms (see the green outfit!).

Everyone's calves and crushed toes just gave a collective sigh of relief.

TPFF: Restyle Runway Highlights

DSCF5904_result

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival has begun and amongst the many shows on offer is the Restyle parade. Restyle is a campaign that promotes op shopping, the ultimate way to simultaneously recycle and bargain hunt.  (You may remember we took part in 2012, such a long time ago now!)

This year the blog posts by our local bloggers were of an impressively high quality.  Instead of blabbing on about it, peek at Hannah's wrap up post here which has links to all the blogs and some of her favourite posts.  Take a look, it's worth it.

Today's parade saw Vicky, Jenelle, Hannah, Jacquelyn, Jocelyn, Demelza, Amy & Anna walking down the runway in their finds along with some op shop volunteers and Instagram-restylers.

Outfit: One Skirt, Two Ways

No point owning a skirt that only works with one type of outfit!!

lefanciulle (11 of 11).jpg

I scored this skirt at Westfield's #mosthunted event last week & wore it like this.
Midi skirt + boots + tshirt = perfect Saturday outfit

A few days later I mixed it up only slightly for the Perlu launch.
Midi skirt + fitted top + elegant flats = a simple evening outfit

If you love an item, wear it every day!  I'm going to follow this advice, specially as NYFW tells us midis are in.  Those of you going to TPFF, why not try wearing something you own, love, and have worn a thousand times, rather than making an unwise event-related purchase that you likely won't wear many more times?

Boutique Launch: Perlu

lefanciulle (5 of 11).jpg

PERLU
Defn: necessary, need

Perlu, Claremont's newest concept store, pushes the boundaries of the usual retail experience.
I remember years ago when online shopping began (she says, sounding like a grandma), people started to wonder what would happen to brick and mortar stores.  Well, we're starting to find out.  In this current climate of you-can-buy-everything-on-the-net, boutiques are beginning to provide more than just things to buy.

Perlu, for one, sells everything from locally designed jewellery to quirky swimwear and WA-made clothing, but also boasts in house alterations, custom cabinetry by Spencer Parks & complimentary hot beverages while you shop.  Oh and did I mention they have fresh blooms  by Ruby Tree Creative available on Fridays and Saturdays?  That's right.  It'd be hard to not have a good time shopping at Perlu whether you buy something or not.

Warning: you probably will buy something.

NYFW Spring RTW: Round-Up & Favourites

NYFW favourites

How many collages can you do in one Saturday?  Many if you're trying to not fall behind with the next batch coming from London Fashion Week!  I hope you've enjoyed my little posts - since I find that not keeping up to date with shows makes my interest wane, I thought I'd go about it creatively this year and share it with you.

Delpozo caught my eye, as did Barbara Tfank; they were very different in terms of style and inspiration, but both sent out gorgeous dresses that were so different to what everyone else was showing.  The un-fitted signature look of the season was probably best done by The Row (in the super luxe version) and Tibi (the more sensible day-time option).  Notable mentions for me include Tome, Monique Lhuillier, and 3.1 Phillip Lim (my perennial favourite - check out the bucket bags that he sent down the runway!).  I didn't particularly enjoy Alexander Wang's show - the first few looks that came out just looked like Phillip Lim from 2012, and the trippy graphic print was a bit meh... but to each their own.  I'm also actually not a fan of Michael Kors because he is the master of being a copycat, but I've got to hand it to the guy - his runway looks were actually divine and wearable.  It's what you'd hope from the "ready-to-wear" collections I guess!

What shows were your favourites at NYFW?

NYFW Spring Trending: Colours

NYFW Spring Trending: Midi Skirts

This demure length isn't disappearing anywhere fast.
Perfect for those ladies who like to be proper ladies.

NYFW Spring Trending: Loose & Low

NYFW loose

Images for collage from Style.com

Call it action and reaction - there was hardly a sniff of any pin-hugging, skin-tight bottoms on the runway at NYFW.  Whilst it's not revolutionary in any way (and the palazzo pant already tried to elbow its way in with a few false starts over the past few years), it is now official: the baggier the better!  Choose your poison from knee-length shorts (eg. Milly - top left), the midi or 7/8th (Calvin Klein Collection's navy blue flared option is divine, as is Tibi's light-as-air striped concoction), or ankle-grazing lengths.  Go the whole-hog and full-length - my favourites being the Theory & The Row offerings.  And if you really want to jump feet-first into the trend, Delpozo's green offering is definitely not for the faint-hearted (or for those who don't mind looking like a Christmas tree).

Outfit: Powder Blue

lefanciulle (15 of 20).jpg

Look who got the memo about light blue being in.  Let's keep it on the low down that these photos were taken pre-NYFW & it was, shall we say, a happy coincidence.  I've loved the colour and fit of this blazer for a long while, but it's hard to find the perfect in between weather to wear it.  On this cool, blustery day, though, a blazer was the perfect outerwear choice for a trip to the city with T to visit an exciting venue, make some even more exciting plans, and of course... eat pastry & coffee.

It's just ticked past the half-way point of the New York Spring Ready-to-Wear shows and the most obvious pick of the trends is the sheer amount of blue on the runway, with lighter shades prevailing.

Definitely a breezy hue to sport in the upcoming months!

We've broken the 1000-post frontier, and what better way to celebrate it than with pics of a bunch of our favourite blogger girls and our beloved stylist pal, Mikey!  Herded into the "Hunting Ground" at Westfield Whitford City, we partook in an exciting style challenge on Saturday to find Westfield's most hunted Spring & Summer items.

#KarrinyupSS14 Audience Style

lefanciulle (12 of 21).jpg

So you like street style?  According to the They All Hate Us girls, Perth fashionistas have their own breed of cool.  Let's celebrate that with a post about the stylish folk at the Karrinyup SS 14 Launch, beginning with our very own Nadine looking so chic in white leather.  White leather!!  Who else could pull that off so well, I wonder.

Event: Karrinyup SS14

lefanciulle (17 of 21).jpg

As if Linzi's mural weren't enough, Karrinyup Shopping Centre took Spring Summer 14 to a new level with a launch party boasting a live illustration by Mekel, a catwalk show featuring all Karrinyup-sourced goods & special guests Tash Sefton & Elle Ferguson from the stellar blog, They All Hate Us.

The evening began with a styling session commentated by Elle & Tash, and whilst it wasn't exactly what we had expected from the ladies (distinctly lacking in shredded denim!), it was intriguing nonetheless.  The highlight was definitely Thiago & his shirtless push up antics.  Next came a Q&A with Elle & Tash, who we're delighted to say came across just as you'd imagine; bubbly, down to earth, authentic - basically such Aussie girls.
