This guy makes some amazing stuff.  I quite admire the textures and forms that Toni Maticevski incorporates into his collections - quite the visual feast!

Went out for some quality hang-time with S & co. the other day at The Tenth State on the corner of Mounts Bay Rd and Broadway.  Creamy chai lattes, plenty of goodies to look at (it's a coffee stop-and-shop), and a sneaky little public service announcement...

Melbourne: Fashion Revolution Day

Melbourne - iPhone diary

There are so many things to notice about Melbourne.  The hoards of coffee shops with bearded baristas, the dirty urban areas, the generally rather stylish people, the trams that are ready to run you down if you even dare cross when there's a little red man, the percentage of cigarette smokers (it's so high! gross), and plenty more.

One thing I chanced upon the other day and couldn't help but notice was H&M's mammoth store.  The sign in the window showed a dress from the H&M Conscious line, so I curiously entered the shop.  Upon entering, I couldn't help but notice the bizarre contrast (I could use the word juxtaposition, but that would be terribly year 12 english) between the H&M Conscious line & the racks of $2! $5! $7! So! Many! Exclamation! Marks!

Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with the above scenario.  Picture it for yourself, is it even that unusual?  How often do we buy something "cheap & nasty" to finish an outfit?  One of my favourite invented phrases is if it's too good to be true, it's too good to be true, so apply that to prices.  If your dress couldn't possibly cost $15, who's losing out here?

Today is Fashion Revolution Day.  Who made your clothes?  #fashrev

Hey dudes, long time no outfit post!
I'm talking to you too, S, you slacker.

Anyway, I'm midway through a week of evening shifts, which means Simon gets to drag me out to bathroom fitting stores and tile shops.  Sounds like the interior designer's dream, but for me it is probably worse than getting teeth pulled.  Which I guess is a credit to Simon because he is a dentist.  I'm calling it house-fittings-fatigue, because really, how many times do you have to go back to the same store to look at the same taps?  I made up my mind months ago, now do us a good deal!

That annoyance aside, it does mean 1. that our house is going to be coming together soon (!!!!), and 2. I get to wear some normal-people clothing during daylight hours, which is a bonus!

DIY: Dried Flowers

DSC_6047.jpg

One of my favourite things from my wedding day were the flowers by the gorgeous Bec of Rox & Rabbit.  Unfortunately, as with most good things, they had to meet a wilted, sad demise thanks to how Mama Nature works.  EXCEPT that I was hell-bent on preserving some of my pretty posies because 1. I am a bit of a hoarder, 2. I was feeling sorry for myself post-wedding, and 3. those flowers were expensive, and I needed to milk them for all their worth.

So I decided to experiment with a few drying techniques which you too can use to stave off those post-wedding blues!  I feel it was quite a success.  And hopefully you'll remember this and be more prepared, instead of going troppo looking for silica gel just prior to leaving for your honeymoon.

For best results, use fresh (not semi-dead) stuff.
