A Glasgow Heatwave

Travel posts that come belatedly are a surefire sign of a good trip, right?
The answer is oui oui, coming direct to you from Paris!

These photos, however, were taken in sunny Glasgow in the pre-shopping (and therefore pre-coat and pre-boot) era, when my feet were frozen & I was stealing PX's coat.

For some crazy reason, Glasgow was actually freezing on our arrival, but has warmed up to sometimes even double figures.  What a heatwave... nearly as hot as the 40 at home ;)

Happy New Year!

Enjoy your NYE, however you spend it.  Partying or crafting are both acceptable.

Hot Asian Trip Packing

So...  This was supposed to be a packing guide for a tropical Asian holiday.  However, I have been very lazy over the Christmas period and just the thought of having to make another collage sent me to sleep for multiple nights in a row.

Alas, here I am, leaving for Cambodia tomorrow with no packing guide to share.  The shame!
But I did start packing yesterday and my colour scheme indadvertedly amounted to this:

Le Fanciulle (2 of 3).jpg

Lots of blues, brights, and neutrals to reduce my risk of being a mosquito-magnet.  Not shown is my obscene amount of mozzie-repellant, as dengue is one thing I'd rather not experience on my adventure.

Anyway, short post today as I've still got plenty to do.  But expect lots of photos to come in the following weeks!

Especially on Instagram.  Always on Instagram.

New Year's Eve: Two Ways

If you're planning on getting your filthy paws on some silky drawers in time for NYE (seeing as the world did not end as it was scheduled to), then you'd better get planning.  Our epic online wardrobe ships pretty quickly, but planning never hurts.

This year I will be spending NYE in Paris, a little change from last year's festivities, yet T will be spending hers in a warmer climate, so here's an outfit to suit each of us.

Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 8.06.29 PM
Winter: Black prom dress here, Burgundy quilted bag here, Geometric earrings here, Peep toe heels here, Nars lip colour here.  Add tights and a coat & it's completely Winter appropriate.

NYE Summer

Summer: Milly dress here, sequin clutch here, gold heeled shoes here, Michael Kors watch here, Hair coils here

How will you be welcoming 2013?  More importantly, what will you be wearing? ;)

Merry Christmas!

Hey readers!

Thank you for supporting us for yet another year - your comments and warm wishes have made our blogging journey one we wouldn't trade in for the world!  We hope you have a very merry Christmas!

Here's just a short prayer by Max Lucado - something to think about in light of the recent international tragedies.  Have a safe holiday season!

Dear Jesus,

It’s a good thing you were born at night. This world sure seems dark. I have a good eye for silver linings.  But they seem dimmer lately.  These killings, Lord.  These children, Lord.  Innocence violated.  Raw evil demonstrated.

The whole world seems on edge. Trigger-happy. Ticked off. We hear threats of chemical weapons and nuclear bombs. Are we one button-push away from annihilation?

Your world seems a bit darker this Christmas.
But you were born in the dark, right? You came at night. The shepherds were nightshift workers. The Wise Men followed a star. Your first cries were heard in the shadows. To see your face, Mary and Joseph needed a candle flame. It was dark. Dark with Herod’s jealousy. Dark with Roman oppression. Dark with poverty.  Dark with violence.
Herod went on a rampage, killing babies. Joseph took you and your mom into Egypt. You were an immigrant before you were a Nazarene.

Oh, Lord Jesus, you entered the dark world of your day. Won’t you enter ours? We are weary of bloodshed. We, like the wise men, are looking for a star. We, like the shepherds, are kneeling at a manger.

This Christmas, we ask you, heal us, help us, be born anew in us.

Hopefully,
Your Children

This outfit comes with lots of love from one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen.  PX & I went on a day trip to Edinburgh last weekend and to sum up how much we loved it, we're going back as soon as possible.

DIY Pamela Love x Nine West Boots

Fairly recently, our readers kindly alerted us to the fact that a DIY hadn't been seen on these web pages since the Restyle project.  Just a few gigantic exams stood between us and the holidays, so we could have improved our game and done some crafting instead of, well, you know, studying our brains out.  But said exams are out of the way now!  And Rubi shoes were having another one of their $10 sales, which of course means the following happened...

Le Fanciulle (2 of 20).jpg

Hopefully this offering appeases the DIY gods.  Put that in your sartorial pipe and smoke it!

DIY Pamela Love for Nine West Boots

I was perusing Instagram for some inspiration the other night, and stumbled upon Aimee Song's latest boot addition - the Pamela Love for Nine West "Pamela" shoes.  Of course, sold out everywhere since their launch at the end of September, and disgustingly hard to track down in Australia.

The DIY lightbulb flicked on!

Unfortunately, I am unskilled in the art of metalwork and hence the pseudo-steel toe is only paint.  But that's ok, right?

Anyway, let's begin.  We start again with the humble ankle boot (my staple shoe).  This time in turquoise!

Le Fanciulle (1 of 20).jpg

Step 1

Mark out where you're going to be taping with chalk or a pencil.  From the photos below, you can see the back is just a big triangle, and the front is zig-zagged across.

Step 2

Using masking tape stuck onto some clear plastic, draw out a stepped design (Pythagoras will be your best friend here).  My "steps" were 0.5cm in height and width.

Le Fanciulle (3 of 20).jpgLe Fanciulle (4 of 20).jpg
Le Fanciulle (6 of 20).jpg

Step 3

Cut your tape and stick it to the shoes in the design you want.

Le Fanciulle (7 of 20).jpg

Step 4

Then, (this is the fiddly time-consuming bit) using masking tape, draw and cut out pieces to make a design you'd like.  Stick them carefully onto your shoes.  You can make it as intricate as you want, but this part takes forever if you're over-zealous.  I chose to use arrows and zig-zags, which are some of Pamela Love's usual designs.

Also, don't forget to tape up the parts of the shoe that you don't want covered in paint.

Le Fanciulle (10 of 20).jpgLe Fanciulle (9 of 20).jpg

Step 5

Finally, time for some action!
Gently sponge paint onto the areas you've applied the tape to.  I used a metallic fabric paint, and gave it three coats to make sure the colour was even.

Le Fanciulle (11 of 20).jpg

Step 6

Wait until the paint dries a little, then take off the tape.  You might need to neaten up the edges with something sharp, just to give it that non-DIY finish.

Le Fanciulle (14 of 20).jpg

Et voila!

You have yourself some updated kicks :)

Of course, for the lazy bones there's these similar coloured shoes in an equally rad pattern.
For the rest of you who undertake this project (or already own the original shoes - you lucky things!), then pair them back with a printed mini (like this or this) and a slouchy sheer top like this.  A colourful spin to Pamela's boho style.

Go get 'em, cowboy!

Tarvydas at Times Square Claremont

So, I know our medical dinner is a year away, but would it be wrong to get my dress sorted this early...?  Especially if it's something bejewelled and covered in beading?

Perth's glamour darling, Ruth Tarvydas, celebrated the opening of her new boutique at Times Square Claremont on Tuesday night.  Despite recent troubles with the closure of her King Street store, all was forgotten as champagne flowed freely (and onto some guests) in the newly outfitted shop, right next to Ae'lkemi!

Sinead (a Tarvydas fan) and I (admittedly, a fresh convert after seeing her new collection) joined in on the festivities, of course with trusty cam-cam in tow.  Check out some of the details of her dresses - you've probably already noticed, but I am an absolute sucker for good texture.

Girl About Town

Today, in the midst of Glasgow Green, a tranquil & pristine pocket of this big noisy city, there was a fruitloop of a girl making faces & taking selfies trying to show you her new lipstick.

You see, I somehow managed to bring along 3 different red lipstick shades on this trip, but no pink.  What. A. Horror.  A horror that could only be remedied by a trip to the MAC counter, for sure.  My mother would actually be so proud.

The real purpose of this post is to say hello & check in.  Also, I suppose, it shows you what happens to me when T is not around... that is, insanity develops & photo quality becomes questionable!

So, what do you like about this post?  The lip colour?  My new cheap as chips Gap beanie?  Or how my face looks like it is freezing to bits and my face looks ridiculous...?

Say hello to the most ridiculous pair of shoes I own.
These are the Deandri Olgas which I bought in August and have been too scared to wear until now...

But the 5 extra inches makes me a normal-sized person!  Woop!

Dressed like a hipster boy in:
Topshop leather jacket
Country Road singlet
Cheap Monday jeans
Deandri Olga lace-up wedges

Starry Eyes

PX & I saw Ellie Goulding at the O2 Academy in Glasgow a few nights ago and golly me, she was amazing.  She danced and rampaged around the stage like a maniac the whole time & her voice was so so good.  Oh how I love singers who can actually sing!  Not to mention singers who wear leather short shorts with creepers.  Respect.
