Flatlay: Work It

Screen Shot 2014-10-30 at 8.12.14 pm

pants / shoes / top / watch / lippy

After a few months in uniform, it's back to proper work clothes for the rest of the year  The above is a typical combination for me, bar the brogues that I am yet to bite the bullet on.  Some people think you need to dress plainly to be taken seriously in the work place but I think if done right you can tweak your usual style into something appropriate without looking like Mr Boring McBoring.

Shop: Mania Mania

image
T has instilled in me a #treatyoself attitude at almost every life milestone, be it surviving a single day or climbing Mt Everest.  So with this week being the last of our term, it is time to consider a purch.  This Mania Mania necklace would update a simple black silk tank outfit for a Summer evening & seeing as that's my go-to outfit, my hand is hovering very close to add-to-cart.

Summer Update: FOCUSING

You might not know it from our recent bizarre weather, but Summer is most definitely on its way & it is time for a wardrobe review.  This doesn't mean scrapping everything you own and buying a whole new summer look... if you do that, it means you either bought rubbish last Summer or have had a huge change in style over the last 6 months.  No, it means tweaking what you wore last year so that it's still current for the next.

Summer update

Steps to Focusing your Seasonal 'Drobe

1 Research
your favourites mags & blogs, as well as lookbooks from online stores you most often purchase from or aspire to purchase from.
Qu: What do I want to look like this Summer?
To do: Save some photos of your ideal look.  Mine is an example above.

2 Review
what you already own: remove your Winter woollies & see what is left.
Qu: Do these items fit my look from qu 1?
To do: Purge your closet of what doesn't fit/suit you/suit your look.

3 List
Make a list of the "Gap" items - those things that will update your current clothing to the look you want.  e.g. some Celine-esque slip ons will update your classic denim shorts from 2013 to 2014.
Qu: What can I add to my existing items to 2014-ise them?
To do: Make a (reasonable-length) list of what you'd ideally buy this season.  Slowly procure these items with your hard earned moolah.  Splurge on classics, save on fashion items.  Please no one "invest" in a crop top :|

Timing

OP for Harper's Bazaar Australia Oct 2014

Actually, my dear beloved Olivia, you can definitely do too many things at once.  Maintaining little Lefanch whilst getting up at 5am for some much-needed exercise & starting a new study-regime is not exactly a walk in the park with Mr Butler, but I'll get there.

Event: Garage Sale Trail

Untitled

The Garage Sale Trail is on next week & MANY6160 has arranged a huge blogger sale.  We have gone through our closets and found a whole heap of gorgeous things that deserve a new owner and, lovers of second hand things that we are, our stall is going to be ahmazingly full of bargains.

Think Zimmerman/Ae'lkemi/White Suede/Sportsgirl/Country Road/Trenery/Seed/etc

Be there.

Outfit: Travel Uniform

Untitled
This, dearest LeFanch comrades, is what I wore for the last two weeks.  Well, variations on this theme interspersed with super daggy hiking get up.  Having a uniform for a trip, much like having an everyday 'uniform', saves time on getting dressed that could (and should!) be spent on more valuable experiences like... eating.

Speaking of eating, one of my favourite parts of travelling with PX is breakfasting. Hatred of nouns-as-verbs aside, what I mean is the process of finding a cafe, choosing a meal, drinking hot coffee (in a mug, of course), using wifi to plan out our day together and then setting out on said adventures.  In truth, this same experience could be had in our own city.  Isn't it funny, the things you only do on holidays that could be done anytime?  Methinks this deep thought could be continued by someone more philosophical than me, so, like a good horror movie, I'll stop here and let you imagine your own version of the rant.

Film: Gone Girl

tumblr_n48ni5711F1qej1i6o1_1280

Rosamund Pike by David Fincher for W Magazine

No spoilers here!  But this post is purely to let you know that:

1. the less you know about the plot the better - hence it's one of those cases where you should watch the film first THEN go and re-live the mind-messing by reading the book
2. this film is definitely worth watching, especially if you're a David Fincher fan or just a fan of thrillers for that matter.   It's smart, calculating, dark, and twisted.  Just how I like it.
3.  You'll never look at Barney Stinson the same again

Inspiration: Flares

streetstyle6749-webanna seleznevab3

Photos from Vanessa Jackman & Tumblr (because thanks to pinterest, even a google search can't locate the original locations of the other two photos.  Source-finding fail.)

I did it - I bought my first pair of J Brands, and NOT in my signature skinny pick!  Yes, I added flares to my ever-growing chattel; the type that a vertically-challenged individual such as myself has to pair with ankle-breaking platforms nonetheless, but in that aspect I do agree with Victoria Beckham regarding their leg-lengthening benefits.

Saba blazer
Bassike tee
Nobody Denim jeans
Country Road shoes
Balenciaga bag
Le Specs sunglasses
Sarah & Sebastian ring

Jess, Bec & I were discussing the best part about the wedding recently.  What is it?  The flowers of course!  As you can see above, flowers (with the exception of gerberas and birds of paradise) make me super happy.  Happy enough to sneakily pick a camellia whilst the groundskeepers aren't around...

Listen: The Golden Echo

Kimbra-The-Golden-Echo-2014-1000x1000

It's a rare occasion when I purchase an entire album, and Kimbra's new one "The Golden Echo" scored itself a spot on my almost-full iPhone!  Think psychedelic sounds a la Jamiroquai, a bit of Prince/Earth Wind & Fire, and a whole lot of sass.  Quite the step up from Anaconda and definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.  I'm giving it a 4 out of 5.

Photos - PX

Viktoria & Woods knit borrowed from T
Leather pants from Fusion
Witchery flats
Op shopped Mimco bag

Feeling slightly risqué in this roll neck knit that I borrowed from T in a fluster before the Karrinyup SS14 launch when I had nothing to go with my favourite leather pants.  Favourite and only, that is.

My favourite technique for getting event-ready is to wear a normal outfit but slightly upgrade each item.  If you look closely, the above concoction is basically jeans, ballet flats and a tshirt in disguise.  A bit of leather here, a low arm hole there and no on would know you're as comfortable as 10am on a Saturday morning.

Norm

Witchery leather trouser

Ahhh Spring sunshine, reminding me that it's time to crack out the singlets!  I can guarantee you that this combo will be a Sunday staple.  Speaking of staples, this "normcore" trend is wonderful for lazy folks like me who dress like this on default - and good news because it was all over the NYFW catwalk (norm-bore?).

I finally got to meet my e-pal in real life - Michelle from A Minute Away From Snowing!  And to whoever left their cute bike sitting around for photo ops, you should be proud that your wheeled-steed graced the pages of Sunday's STM!  More photos of Michelle's dreamy Hello Parry + Karla Spetic + Louboutin outfit combo after the jump.

P.S. street fashion a-plenty again today - make sure you keep checking back in!
