Eat Out: Typika

My my, there's quite a few food-based posts coming up on Lefanch, so prepare ye cyber-stomachs.  This Friday's gastronomic guide is devoted to Typika, the behemoth cafe taking up prime residence the heart of Claremont (which I've dubbed the place to be "seen" - if you know what I mean).  But despite the hoards of arty folk and Western Suburb-types frequenting the joint, it serves up a hefty breakfast & a decent lunch if you've tired yourself out shopping.

If you're on the market for breakfast at Typika, the bircher muesli is substantial and the fruit salad contains jelly.  Jelly!  The French toast, however, is a hit of morning diabetes if you're into that, so perhaps hold back if you're not a purveyor of sweet things.
Lunch-wise, the ribs (both pork and beef) were tender with the meat falling off the bone, and the steak sandwiches appeared diminutive but were filling!  All highly recommended.  But perhaps not the gyoza, which are always better left to the Japanese.

Anyway feast your eyes, and when you're hungry enough to make the trip, head over to 331 Stirling Highway, Claremont.

Sarah, Claremont

Sarah's outfit is a reminder to myself that I have a stash of maxi dresses to be knotted & worn this Summer.

Street Style: Caitlin

Caitlin, Leederville

I've been snapping some street style for Sportsgirl recently, and seeing as S & I are more akin to feeding our faces and reading books* these holidays, I thought it'd be nice to trickle some daily style snaps on here in lieu of our laziness!

Many thanks to this lovely lady, Caitlin, who I caught on her way to work in Leederville.  She is my first in this ongoing set of street style, and I hope to bring you lots more (hopefully including some from Japan, if I can get my Japanese up to scratch).

xx T

P.S. *Thank you Jas for recommending Ender's Game - it was a good read!

Outfit: Build Me Up, Buttercup

Le Fanciulle (5 of 30).jpg

They say you dress to suit your mood, and in this case I'd say it's true, as happy and bright would definitely describe my mood whilst on an ice cream gorge-fest with T.  I do love Summer colours and buttercup yellow is close to the top of the list.

A few other little tid bits about this outfit: note I have overcome my fear of mixing leathers (see shoes/bag/watch) & am actually not that satisfied with the result haha, also note that my hair is finally growing (finally!) past shoulder length although it's only a matter of time before it gets chopped off I'm sure, and lastly the little book you see in my hand is S & T's book of adventures that we have used to plan our rampaging for the last 3 years and hopefully a million more :) Maybe for Christmas you could give your close friends a little note book like this?  There's nothing like sharing a pot of tea with a notebook and pen in hand.

Outfit: L'America

Le Fanciulle (15 of 30).jpg

Oh hey - we finally got our act together and shot some outfit photos!  Not that we haven't been wearing outfit-post-worthy clothes for the past two weeks on holiday, but with all the random stuff going on it's been hard to get together & snap to our heart's content.  Enough whinging anyway - this outfit is one of my Summer uniforms (mainly because I'm lazy and it's too hot to wear pants).  Part of Kym Ellery's diffusion line, L'America, this dress doubles as a t-shirt & comes in quite the array of colours now.  I've been eyeing off the green & grey version, but I have some saving for Japan to do, so that'll have to be shafted to the pipe dream bucket.  Oh well, plenty of Comme des Garcons to soothe my soul over in Tokyo...

Holiday Essentials

My two essentials for a banging great time this season?

1. The Urban Walkabout "Pieces of Perth" guide - just launched yesterday & available FREE for your hot little hands to get hold of.  It outlines attractions & cool places to feed your faces in each of Perth's villages.

2. A solid cam-cam to document your gallivanting.
My weapon of choice has just been upgraded to the Nikon D610 thanks to Simon!!

Eat Out: Gordon St Garage

Gordon St Garage is Perth's relatively new super-hip place to eat.  Or, to be more precise, drink coffee.

Gordon St Garage Review

This garage-turned cafe has been on my list of places to visit for ages so I was pretty pumped when Sinéad & I could go there and test it out.

The good
The coffee is deeeelicious.  The interior is über hip.  The company is also fab, but that's BYO.

The bad
The breakfast/brunch selection is very savoury, which is why we (sweet tooths) both ended up with this baked ricotta and fruit concoction which, I might add, was yum.
They don't have mugs for coffee which makes me very sad.  I don't bold words very often on this blog as I have a personal distaste for over-formatting but this is a big issue.  Delicious coffee in an itsy bitsy cup is a crime.

What's your favourite place to eat in Perth?  I'd love to add something to my ridiculously long list!

In My Holiday Handbag

Having a perpetually-packed bag means I can get out and cram as many adventures as possible into these holidays, between staying at home to finish my diving study and Japan trip planning.  Some packing tips for impromptu shenanigans with your bestie:

1. Bring a notebook to jot down ideas & schemes for world domination
2. BB cream - light coverage for post-beach swims
3. Avene Cicalfate cream is the perfect thick moisturiser for those with crappy skin (like mine!).  Don't let bad rashes ruin your holiday adventures, or your holiday photos!
4. Marina Ambrosia 24k gold intensive repair eye mask for when you've got 15 minutes to yourself (super hydrating & doesn't give me a rash? I think that calls for some sort of celebration)
5. A bottle of water for on-the-go hydration!  Brita now sells bottles like these if you're a filtered-water lover

DIY: Is Your New Purchase Just "Not Quite Right"?

Whilst I usually reserve my hacking-things-up skills for op shopped or handed down clothes (mainly because my skills are lacking and the risk is high), I recently bought this dress that was just crying out for a quick alteration.  It was just not quite right.  The dress was purchased mainly for its seriously cute print, but was simply unwearable (to put it lightly) with the clashing shades of green in the beads and in the print!  Really.  I just couldn't.  #fashunproblems

I put the dress on to go for brunch, packed scissors in my bag and then ordered PX to both de-bead and take photos of the result.  Doctor's orders!  He had to comply. (hahaha my favourite joke at the moment)

After de-bead-ment
Is this not far more clean and cute?  Yes, I tell you.  I mean, if it really needed beads they could be mint green, right?
