A Few Changes

IMG_4871

There have been a few changes lately.  First, a change in my outer garment for the first time in 2 months.
Second, Px & I have finished our electives, meaning it is finally "summer" holidays for us!  Hurrah!  (Currently in London soaking up the bountiful rays)
Lastly, this is the first pair of fringed boots (or fringed anything) that I  have ever liked. Either my tastes are changing or Isabel Marant has brainwashed me or I was just that desperate for new footwear.

Thanks PX for the photos :)

Cape - Topshop, Boots - Zara (both second hand), Earmuffs - from T, skirt - Country Road.

Sadly, you can't even tell it was snowing during these photos.  It was pretty, believe me.

Just Cos

Can you sum up the style you aim for in a few words?  Unlike those people in the newspaper fashion pages ("chic, classy, elegant" they always reply), I surely cannot.  Summing it up by listing shops is much easier & Cos would be at the top of the list.

A pink & black block colour combination for an evening out:
Cos1

Stripes & jersey for a day out shopping:
cos2

Long line blazer, Shift dress, Chelsea boots, gloves, Metal collar, hat
Breton top, Jersey trousers, shoes, tube bracelet, bag, necklace

It's probably lucky Cos doesn't ship to Australia, but there are a few stores in the UK.  (Uh oh.)

Mannix

Today here's a more fashion-y post to break up the travel photos!  Sara Phillips was having a mega-sale (there were bargains to be had on her website) so I snapped up the last of these Mannix dresses before Christmas.  It's a rather festive dress, so I figured it'd be put to good use this year, given it is our last year as medical students!

Sab shot these photos of me just before she few off to China and I left for Cambodia.  There's more shoot photos to come (later - be patient!), but the whole reason for our session in the first place is for something we'll announce in due time!  For now, enjoy my perpetual face-pulling and the plastic-fantasticness of my heavy handed Lightroom work (I only wish my skin were actually like this - it's been rather temperamental over here in Phnom Penh due to the up-and-down weather).  Make sure you check out Sab's awesome work here!  She has different pictures!

Perhaps should have packed this for my trip - we've been invited to attend a traditional wedding here in Cambodia on Sunday and this might have been just the dress to wear...

Jardin du Luxembourg

Being in Paris to bring in the new year seems like an age ago...

Since then I've spent nearly 4 weeks in the hospital, been to the top, middle & both sides of Scotland.  How that took less than a month, I'm not really sure.

Thanks for the photos PX

This wool hat from H&M is dear to my heart.  I love how it makes me simultaneously look semi-cowboy, semi-lion's-mane.  I also love its ability to blow off in the middle of a street in Paris & turn me into Most Annoyed Girl Alive. It's true lurv, I tell ya.

Not Leather Weather...

But I can always make an exception!

karmen_pedaru

Leather pants.

Not something I'd have foreseen myself purchasing in hot dusty Cambodia, but hey, a holiday is still a holiday - and extravagant purchases are (in my mind) even more warranted when you are obliged to go to uni every day in another country.  Plus they were 50% a surprise 70% off from my French Zara-substitute, AXARA (not a very good excuse) and they weren't at a price you'd ever dream of back home (still not a good excuse).  Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough in Perth?  Nonetheless they're now mine and I'll cry if I want to.

It's far too hot for an outfit post wearing the pants in Phnom Penh, but Karmen in the picture above pretty much sums up my perfect leather-pants-look.  Plus I'm now dreaming of how well they'd go with the Bloch shoes I ordered...  Oops.

Angkor Wat at Sunrise

Le Fanciulle (5 of 121).jpg

As you can tell from our travel photos thus far, S and I are having a ball overseas!  We miss each other and our families heaps, but by the wonders of Skype and Facebook, we're always in touch.  Especially when there are awesome experiences to be shared, such as my trip to Angkor Wat and the temple complex at Siem Reap.

Contrary to what you can see in the photos I've chosen for this post, the place was crawling with tourists (even at 5am waiting for the sunrise...).  But despite the constant photo-intrusions, I highly recommend spending a good day or so exploring the ruins and feeling very Tomb-Raider-esque, even if you're not supposed to go tramping around in short-shorts like Lara.  Just be sure to bring a hat and plenty of water!

Little did I know that my beloved Nikes would be getting the workout of their existence on this day.  I was so happy that I wore lightweight sports tights and lots of linen and cotton, as it was stinkin' hot!

Isn't the temple so majestic?  It was such an experience, visiting one of the world's most stunning treasures!
More travel updates soon, just to prove that I'm still alive.

What I'm wearing:

Country Road shirt
Country Road linen singlet
Nike tights
Nike shoes

(yup, totally repping the Nike & CR here!)

You Snooze, You Lose

I decided that my foray over to the land of awesome high street shops would be a good time to try out a few crazy trends that are not so rampant in Aus.  One of these is the PJ-shirt trend,  done well by brands like Theory & J Crew, amongst a billion others.  I especially love this one from April, May.
PJ style

Theory & J Crew shirts, Topshop jeans, Steven boots,  J.W. Hulme Co bag, Juicy Couture necklace

I think I'll make like Sincerely Jules and combine the PJ shirt I actually bought with distressed denim & accessories that are clearly not for sleeping.

Have you been doing the PJ-shirt as daywear thing?  Any tips for a newbie who is seriously late to the party?

Love from the land of Zara sales,

Melon Crush

Le Fanciulle (109 of 121).jpg

I interrupt the travel photos to bring you an outfit post!

All the way from Cambodia too - not bad, especially for a holiday, right?
These shots were taken at our hotel in Siem Reap (home of Angkor Wat) - a lush, brand-spanking-new residence with all the comforts of home.  Plus a few thousand mosquitoes.  Which is why these awesome pants have come in handy since I've been here; they're thick enough to withstand most things, but cool enough to breathe.  And don't forget the tropical-pop coral colour (I also have them in navy blue but these are way more fun)!

Way to go, Country Road - pants that uber-useful and that also finally fit me!

The espadrilles have also come in handy here, when I'm not sporting my Nike Frees.  Rather good value for $4!  You might not be able to get anything of that price in Australia, but here is a classier option, plus the pretty Gorman espadrilles (1, 2) I was eyeing off before I came over.

University of Glasgow

IMG_3523

Presenting some beautiful photos (thanks to my funny fellow) from an even more beautiful location: the University of Glasgow, the 4th-oldest university in the English speaking world.  We explored the grounds like serious tourist folk & then walked through Kelvingrove Park, another must-see in Glasgow.

And finally, my Topshop coat has made its blog debut.  I have this coat to thank for my life, despite the "warm" weather.

Life on the Lake

Here are some of my photos from my first day in Siem Reap, Cambodia.  I snuck off last Friday (for a 6 hour bus ride from Phnom Penh), and we were lucky enough to catch the sun setting over lake Tonle Sap.  Yup, it's a huge lake - not the sea!

Later this week, once the internet stops dying every time I try to upload to flickr, I'll post some photos from Angkor Wat and our trip around the temple complex.  Plus an outfit post - yup, I finally convinced my little bro to take some of my blog photos!

Tune in soon,

Starry Starry Night

After quite a clean shopping slate on this trip, I went a little splurge-y after Christmas.  I'll blame the sales, the Parisian patisseries, the holiday-purchases-don't-count rule or whatever I like.  Perhaps the effect of seeing Van Gogh's masterpieces in real life?

Starry Night

Hobbs Shooting Star trousers,  Gorman denim shirt, Alexander Wang sandals, Karen Walker frames, Gorman fluoro bag.

The above Hobbs trousers were on super super sale & the pattern is so bloomin' cool.
They're quite floaty, so will be suitable for here with thermal tights underneath or at home with a simple tshirt & flats.

"But where will you wear them?" asks PX.
"EVERYWHERE!" I replied.

Holiday In Cambodia

Le Fanciulle (5 of 18).jpg

Greetings from Cambodia!  Or should I say, chom reap suor!

It's been a week since I got here to do my medical elective and so far it's been great - plenty of local haunts to explore, tuk-tuks to ride in, and lots of tasty tasty food... (of course only on the weekend because I spend the rest of the week at the Children's Surgical Centre).  But today I'm blogging from the bus on my way to Siem Reap where my family and I will be spending the weekend, doing all sorts of touristy stuff like, you know, just checking out Angkor Wat!  I can't wait to get there - be assured there'll be plenty of photos to check out soon.

But first, here are some photos from dinner the other night and our walk by the riverside.  The local food in Cambodia is similar to Thai - read: delicious.  I predict that I will return to Australia rather squishy around the edges.  We're also in no short supply of coconuts (coconut-water addicts, eat your hearts out)!

Check in soon for some more Cambodia posts, but for now, chom reap lea :)
