Old is the new new!

When it comes to being a sad little uni student, it really does pay to be thrifty, whether it's buying off ebay, pillaging sale-racks or doing some good old op-shopping.

Whilst reading the new issue of Frankie, I came across this:

Salvos has it's first ever "Buy Nothing New" month - an initiative which aims to get people to think about sustainable shopping, with the benefits of reducing the environmental impact of brand-spanking-new purchases, and saving money by spending our money more thoughtfully!
Of course, it doesn't mean you should go without; the folks from the initiative say that you can buy, barter, swap (and beg for or offer favours) for whatever you need, as long as it is pre-loved (with the exceptions of the necessities such as food, personal hygiene products and the like).  


So you can guess what S and I shall be doing for the month of October!  We'll keep you posted on how we're faring, and we'd be super happy if you guys decided to join us for our October project!

Why hello dream hair!

I had just decided to grow my hair longer again until I came across this abso-loooot-ely beautiful photo of Catherine McNeil in September Vogue... and now I'm torn!

The editorial in this edition of Vogue also reignited my love of 50s fashion (not that it ever really died down). This, coupled with the discovery and layby of a drool-worthy dress in Review, has taken my obsession to new heights.

Ahhh if only I lived in the northern hemisphere. (well, I am holidaying there this coming summer, but that isn't the point!)
Net-a-porter's tri-weekly email landed in my inbox last Friday, and I can say without a doubt that this year's 'in' colours absolutely tickle my fancy.  I don't care that it's going to be summer soon - I'm going to be covering myself in these divine colours!

Blogger feature: Spring has sprung

Whilst Europe is preparing for "fall", it is semi disappointing watching all the beautiful cold weather collections coming out... just when it's starting to heat up down here! So thankfully we have a whole caboodle of talented Aussie bloggers who keep our spirits up with posts that get us excited for Spring!

One such blog is GaryPepperVintage, the blog of a lovely Eastern States online-vintage-store owner who does beautiful photoshoots usually to show off her new stock or DIY projects. It's one of my favourites because the combination of impeccable photography, individual style and down to earth writing makes it a really good read. I urge you to check it out!!

Which is your favourite image? Personally, I don't think I can choose... Even though I love the outfit of the girl on the bottom left, I think cute couples are even cuter when they have a slightly daggy/odd ball look going on.

Tickled Pink

Just to be a little different and extend my shoe collection from being simply black, white or brown, I decided to buy these:

As soon as I got them in the mail, I was regretting the fact I chose rose-pink (of all colours!!!) over classic black.

But they've super-comfy and they certainly have grown on me over the last week, and now I like them.
Sort of.
I think the only thing holding me back from full-grown shoe-love is the fact that I'm a little bit stumped with what to wear them with!  So I did a bit of google picture-hunting...

I could take Selma and Ashley's example of wearing them with a black dress - easy!  But I do quite like the way Katy Perry has teamed her patterned dress with pink heels instead of the standard black.

This, however, would be my favourite look.  Not because it's modelled by Du Juan (on the right) - whom I simply adore - but because it's simple, clean-cut, and an outfit I would probably wear anyway.  And now I have the coloured heels to pull it off!

What to do around Perth: vintage sale!

Just a quick post to any vintage-lovers in the Perth area about a lovely Vintage sale coming up THIS Saturday!
Spotted on the cool blog PerthQuake (not really a fashion blog, more a what's on in Perth blog), the sale boasts nothing over $50 and bargain suitcases of things under $10.

What we're loving in Perth... Fusion Clothing!

What a gem!  Just a short walk from UWA...

Please bear with me while I tell you a little story...

Once upon a time, in a far off land called Perth, there lived two fair maidens called S & T.  These two maidens had a particular penchant for clothing (the majority of it being far beyond their budget) and an enhanced taste for designer accessories.  On a meagre uni-student wage (T being a professional vampire, and S sitting on babies for a living), this was a hole in their heart that could never be filled...

Then one day, on a long trek between campuses, they decided to venture into a little shop along Hampden Road known as Fusion Clothing... and this is where the story REALLY takes off.

Fusion, as it turned out, was not an old granny shop, tucked away behind a hairdresser's.
It is truly a treasure trove of vintage and recycled designer clothing that makes high end brands available for the same amount as full priced Esprit!  It stocks brands from Country Road up to Armani, Chanel, and YSL.
Of course, you have to be lucky to find something that you like in your size, as with any recycling boutique.  But when you're lucky... BOY are you lucky!

Le.Fanciulle have been quite restrained in this shop (because otherwise we'd both be dirt-poor), but that hasn't stopped us from picking up a few "investment pieces" from Fusion:

So next time you're taking a walk down Hampden to get your coffee-fix from Boubar, we definitely recommend taking a detour into this fantastic shop.  

Pam, the proprietor, offers some excellent advice; simply by reading her rap-sheet on the shop's website, it is evident that she has a lifetime's worth of experience to draw upon!  Her assistants also share Pam's passion for fashion, and it's really quite a challenge to walk out of the shop without something in our hot little hands.  Also, if you're so inclined to shop online, you can buy some stock from their website too.

Highly recommended!

Man, I feel like a woman!

With all the beautiful, pretty clothing available, I do not know why masculine clothing appeals to me so much. The tailoring of the shirts and trousers always seem so simple and elegant... not to mention comfortable!

Things I note from all these pictures:

1. All except one have a brown leather belt

2. I need to invest in some more quality leather goods! 

3. Slimline pants, preferably a little bit fitted so as to look like a girl in boy-ish clothing... not an actual boy!

4. I should follow T's lead and 'invest' (I use that word quite liberally) in some good sunnies! (When money permits, maybe in 2050?)

International brand Kenzo even used female models in it's recent Spring 2011 menswear collection to show the versatility of menswear.  Judge for yourself in these pictures.
