Camel-hunting

After a little misunderstanding with Yesstyle over a pair of pants in a size too big (who knew Korean sizing ran large???), I was perusing their site with my newfound store credit when I came across this lovely dress by a nifty Korean brand called Orangestyle.  (and now I wish i knew how to read Korean because I've been drooling over almost everything on their site).

So naturally, I bought it...  That is, after a long time deciding whether I should stick with navy blue - a safe colour, or go with the light brown.  (A calculated risk because I am rather tanned...).  But it's here now, and I don't look washed out or strangely coloured with it on (big *phew*).

Pleats (to create the illusion that I have some form of womanly shape...)
A nifty brown belt that came with it!

And the other day, when Net-a-Porter released the "Big Fashion" issue of their online magazine, it reminded me of the dress!

Can't wait to wear it out somewhere...

Currently Craving: a wardrobe update

Just a quick post on a couple of things we are craving at the moment to update our collection of clothing.

S craves:

  • a thin chambray shirt
  • cute floral dresses
  • plain leather wedges (I found these in an op shop today for $12, in my size, in new cond.!!!)
  • comfortable black flats (I have been looking for these since my $30 Betts pair sadly passed away!!)
  • slimline beige chinos
  • more beige, nude, pastel in general (ok this is not one item)
  • silk culottes, if they even exist
  • some black jersey to make a maxi skirt
  • a hair cut!
THIS LIST IS OUT OF CONTROL
Witchery wedges would do me just fine (says the girl with a small Witchery obsession)

This Sportsgirl dress looks so handy, but I don't think I'd have trouble finding something similar in an op shop ;)

T craves:

  • casual summery dresses - a shirt-dress would be divine!
  • a black knee-length skirt
  • a classic black cardigan (how have I not managed to find the perfect one yet?)
  • a casual blazer
  • some statement headbands
  • a brown leather jacket (possibly following the shearling/aviator trend?  I don't know just yet...  This would definitely be an investment piece.)
  • these Witchery shorts!  (But I am tres poor at the moment, so I will resist, despite the lure of the "boarding pass" campaign! I WILL RESIST!!)

I'm Blue! (abadeeabadie)

On the weekend, it was our lovely friend Emily's 21st birthday at the Oxford Hotel in Leederville, during which Le.Fanciulle and a few merry (some very merry) friends snapped away some memories and participated in some good old tom-foolery.
Here are a few pictures from our night out, just to show you that we do indeed tear ourselves away from the books and go out!

The gorgeous birthday girl!!

Wannabe child of the 50s

Looking through these pictures, I just wish I had been born half a century earlier... I l-o-v-e how waist-defining A-line skirts plus cardigans and heels are so demure yet mysterious in a strange way. Each photo manages to seem demure and 'innocent', yet each has a contrasting element that keeps it young and modern.
I am now seriously craving my previously mentioned Review layby... and also craving a win in the lottery :|

In this one, it's the bare shoulders that keep it from looking like Gran's old curtains.
High heels make legs look super long even with a lower hemline.

I'd hazard a guess and say this blouse is not for wearing without a cami... *blush*

Prada dress: I actually prefer the way it was styled on Liu Wen in Vogue China (also September issue). Read on the for the link.

If this editorial interests you, check out an equally as lovely one here from Vogue China's September Issue.
Now I'm in the mood for a visit to Borders...

Old is the new new!

When it comes to being a sad little uni student, it really does pay to be thrifty, whether it's buying off ebay, pillaging sale-racks or doing some good old op-shopping.

Whilst reading the new issue of Frankie, I came across this:

Salvos has it's first ever "Buy Nothing New" month - an initiative which aims to get people to think about sustainable shopping, with the benefits of reducing the environmental impact of brand-spanking-new purchases, and saving money by spending our money more thoughtfully!
Of course, it doesn't mean you should go without; the folks from the initiative say that you can buy, barter, swap (and beg for or offer favours) for whatever you need, as long as it is pre-loved (with the exceptions of the necessities such as food, personal hygiene products and the like).

So you can guess what S and I shall be doing for the month of October!  We'll keep you posted on how we're faring, and we'd be super happy if you guys decided to join us for our October project!

And did I mention there were prizes involved?

Head to www.nothingnew.com.au for more information!

Why hello dream hair!

I had just decided to grow my hair longer again until I came across this abso-loooot-ely beautiful photo of Catherine McNeil in September Vogue... and now I'm torn!
The editorial in this edition of Vogue also reignited my love of 50s fashion (not that it ever really died down). This, coupled with the discovery and layby of a drool-worthy dress in Review, has taken my obsession to new heights.

Keep your eyes peeled- I'll post some more of this editorial soon, but for now...this picture is surely enough of a feast for the eyes. We're also planning a feature on the gorgeous leblogdesushi...but that will have to wait it's turn!

Palette

Ahhh if only I lived in the northern hemisphere. (well, I am holidaying there this coming summer, but that isn't the point!)
Net-a-porter's tri-weekly email landed in my inbox last Friday, and I can say without a doubt that this year's 'in' colours absolutely tickle my fancy.  I don't care that it's going to be summer soon - I'm going to be covering myself in these divine colours!

Burnt orange - a statement colour by itself

Draped asymmetric gown by Matthew Williamson

Camel (light brown, etc.) - a great neutral which you can mix/match/layer up with

Chloe knitted wool skirt

Silver and grey - another neutral (I do love my neutrals)

Another Matthew Williamson piece

Navy blue - a good yet equally classy substitute for black

Both pieces by Oscar de la Renta

Dark green - one of my all time favourite colours!  And you don't need to work a military look to pull it off either...

Dress by Matthew Williamson; Jumper by Marc by Marc Jacobs; Dress by J Crew

What colours do you want to wear this summer?

Blogger feature: Spring has sprung

Whilst Europe is preparing for "fall", it is semi disappointing watching all the beautiful cold weather collections coming out... just when it's starting to heat up down here! So thankfully we have a whole caboodle of talented Aussie bloggers who keep our spirits up with posts that get us excited for Spring!

One such blog is GaryPepperVintage, the blog of a lovely Eastern States online-vintage-store owner who does beautiful photoshoots usually to show off her new stock or DIY projects. It's one of my favourites because the combination of impeccable photography, individual style and down to earth writing makes it a really good read. I urge you to check it out!!

This sheer DIY skirt/draped material is so beautiful and fairy-like!

And again, sheer sheer sheer.

I love how her skirts are either mini or maxi...Sorry in-between-length, I don't love you anymore.

We heart cute couples

All photos from TheSartorialist

These couples all just seem to suit each other so well!
Which is your favourite image? Personally, I don't think I can choose... Even though I love the outfit of the girl on the bottom left, I think cute couples are even cuter when they have a slightly daggy/odd ball look going on.

Tickled Pink

Just to be a little different and extend my shoe collection from being simply black, white or brown, I decided to buy these:

As soon as I got them in the mail, I was regretting the fact I chose rose-pink (of all colours!!!) over classic black.

But they've super-comfy and they certainly have grown on me over the last week, and now I like them.
Sort of.
I think the only thing holding me back from full-grown shoe-love is the fact that I'm a little bit stumped with what to wear them with!  So I did a bit of google picture-hunting...

source: Fabsugar.com
I could take Selma and Ashley's example of wearing them with a black dress - easy!  But I do quite like the way Katy Perry has teamed her patterned dress with pink heels instead of the standard black.

source: asianmodelsblog.blogspot.com
This, however, would be my favourite look.  Not because it's modelled by Du Juan (on the right) - whom I simply adore - but because it's simple, clean-cut, and an outfit I would probably wear anyway.  And now I have the coloured heels to pull it off!

What would you team pink shoes with?
