Friday nights are proving less lifeless in Perth; it seems that a considerable collective of creatives and people in high places have taken it upon themselves to dig little Perth out of its slumber!    On Friday night, Sinead, Jenelle and I had a grand time perusing the stalls of the OnWilliam Illuminites Night Markets.  There were plenty of treasures to be found, and all made by some very creative local hands!  Unfortunately for our rumbling tummies, food ran out...  But our luck didn't run out because across the bridge and outside the GPO were the food markets which have popped up recently!  Bratwurst and many other mystery meats were had, and we were feeling pretty jolly after that.

Also spotted at the markets were Sarah of The Silver Lining, and fellow Restyler Lisa of Hug-Sized (the PFF poster-girl of the Illuminite markets!).

Oh Perth, how you've grown!

Agate

Le Fanciulle (4 of 11).jpg

Here was what I wore for Pippa McManus' exhibition opening night (post here).  It's a very simple outfit, which reminds me that I should show you what I've managed to reduce my wardrobe to post-cull!

The large agate slice is similar to the one S has - we went on an internet shopping rampage over exams, which resulted in many recent acquisitions including this.  It's solidly crafted out of a polished slice of Brazilian agate, and to be honest, wearing it makes you feel like a total winner since it has the weight a medal.  We've dubbed it our "medallions of power".  Insert enthusiastic fist pumps and exaggerated consonants.

P.S. heading to the William Street Illuminites night markets tonight!  Will we see you there? :)

Stuffing Stockings

Rainbows upon rainbows!  If it's not the most materialistic time of year (again.).  I guess a collage post is de rigour too, since us womenfolk love a good wish-list/not-so-subtle suggestion-drop.

Here are some colourful bits we wouldn't mind receiving this silly season.  Some are small enough to fill the empty toes of your stockings, and some large enough to be presents on their own.

P.S. it's CHRISTMAS, not X-mas for crying out loud.  Watch this to remind yourself why on earth we have it in the first place, and begone, political correctness!  Shoo!  No place for you on this blog ;)

Exploring

This is the first of many impending travel posts on lefancypants over the coming month or two.

Glasgow is proving to be a very large, busy city, with heaps of areas we love & also some areas for strictly daylight only (well, what little daylight there is).  PX & I had a few days of exploring before our rotations began yesterday and gallivanted all around the city, taking photos hither thither like the good tourists we are.

Along with T's beanie, scarf from PX, mum's bag, my aunty's jacket donation & the next-door-neighbour's gloves, I did wear some of my own clothes.  Also, if anyone's dying to know, I finally ticked 'proper winter coat' off my shopping list.  Next, boots.

Plenty more photos to come here & on PX's blog.  He is quite a clever fellow.

Unveiled: 200 Years of Wedding Glamour

Le Fanciulle (2 of 30).jpg

My oh my, my dream of a quiet holiday (read: lying on the couch for a month) has fast become replaced with more social outings than I could poke a stick at.  I guess it is, however begrudgingly, much improved upon my plan of hermiting alone at home.  My annual tradition of visiting the museum got the better of me though, when we received an invitation to attend the opening night of the WA Museum's newest exhibition.

On Saturday night, Sinead (S's official proxy whilst she's away) and I had the pleasure of attending "Unveiled: 200 Years of Wedding Glamour".  On loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum of London, "Unveiled" showcases wedding garb and glamour from the past 200 years.  Work by top couturiers is also featured in the exhibition, from the father of couture - Charles Frederick Worth - right up to Christian Lacroix.  Enough to make the fashion folk, history enthusiasts, and bridezillas froth at the sight of Honiton lace, satin booties, and socialite Margaret Whigham's extravagant train (which takes up about a  3x5m space on the exhibition floor).  Scroll on down to see pictures from the night, and learn a few fun wedding facts.

For richer or for poorer: both dresses from 1841 - the one on the left in cream silk, and the one on the right in a washable printed cotton so it could be worn again.  Practicality clearly went out of vogue at some point after this.

Notorious: Margaret Whigham's extravagant wedding dress.  Too naughty to tell her story here, so here's the link to her wiki page.

Hmm I wonder what era this creation was from?
No prizes; it's obviously something from the sixties.

Dita: Ms von Teese's violet taffeta wedding dress by Vivienne Westwood.  Interestingly enough, we also learnt a thing or two about the history of the white dress (and it doesn't have much to do with being virginal on your wedding day!).

Costarella: Perth's own Aurelio Costarella's masterpiece sits out in the foyer, enchanting all with its layers of ruffles.

Of course, obligatory outfit shots.
It was the first debut of my 3.1 Phillip Lim dress - will whip it out again for better shots at some point in time!

There are a few more photos on our Flickr, if you feel so inclined to peruse the exhibit in hi-res detail.
Otherwise, make your way down to the museum to see the exhibition, which will run until March.

Just be sure to keep the inner bridezilla in check - there's already one there.

A big thanks to the team at the WA Museum, who made the opening a wonderful event!

Party Brights

Le Fanciulle (10 of 28).jpg

A departure from my usual black-on-black going-out outfit, here is my getup from last Friday night!  Tried to channel a bit of Caro Issa with the fuchsia, but it was too cold to go out without a jacket.  Stupid Perth weather, make up your mind already!  But thank you for being terrible so I can at least wear some leather before it gets to 40 degrees.

The earrings once also had some awesome jewelled beetles attached to them.  But alas, being made out of glass, they were too heavy for my tiny ears.  So I hacked them off and below is the end result.

Here, I am pleased with my exam-splurge: this Topshop leather jacket.  So soft, so basic, and the perfect solution for that black-jacket gap in my wardrobe.

However, I am NOT pleased with my new baby camera (this thing), which all these photos were taken on.  The shots are a bit lacklustre, but I guess that's the tradeoff - portability with the baby cam versus awesomeness of the big cam.  Anyway, after all that hunting around for a small camera, I think big cam-cam is just going to come with me in the end!

P.S. Sinead and I got to go to the opening of the WA Museum's newest exhibition last night - pictures up tonight (or whenever I get time to go through them!)

I Love Lacy

Saw this in Zara yesterday and (canyoubelieveit) left it behind.  Consider me shamed.
I have decided I will not buy a ridiculously impractical sheer lace blouse when I still have not conquered my tasks:
1 - buy boots & 2 - buy a proper coat

Must tick off the coat & boots list to I can get it!  It'll be good for a night out with the coat I  have not yet bought over the top ;)

Lots of love from freezing Glasgow!
(Actually it's currently a balmy 1 degree, so not technically freezing)

Printed Silk

S is alive and freezing it up overseas!!  So here's a Australian-weather-appropriate post of hers, before she starts off her Winter weather posting from abroad.  And just quietly, uni has given us the green light for our last year of med school.  Now for our final year to to earn the "R" in doctor!

Le Fanciulle (7 of 28).jpgLe Fanciulle (12 of 28).jpg

These are my current MLP (Most Loved Pants, puhlease) because they're made of such soft silk that it basically feels like you're wearing pyjamas.  And now that the MLPs & I have gone through a traumatic life event together (tripping over a mop bucket), I love them all the more.

Quite an art-gallery-opening-appropriate print on the pants, don't you think?

Zara silk pants (via T via eBay! 4th hand pants?)
Country Road tank top (op shopped)
Old shoes
Vintage Glomesh purse
Agate necklace from eBay

I love printed pants, they make getting dressed so easy!  I'm have taken printed wool pants with me to Europe in the hope of reviving a boring boots + coat combination... we'll see how that turns out.
